Facebook rolls out 'Nearby Friends' feature
Facebook introduced a new feature that lets mobile users locate find nearby friends. The Nearby Friends feature is optional, and will send notifications whenever a friend is near your location, reads a statement sent Thursday from the social network. Users can tailor Nearby Friends to show information on any collection of friends they choose. Facebook says the option should help users "meet up and spend time together." "When you see a friend visiting a place you've been, it's the perfect opportunity to send a recommendation for a great restaurant," says product manager Andrea Vaccari. "You can also make last-minute plans to meet up with a friend who happens to be in the same place you're headed to." The feature will launch on U.S. Android devices and the iPhone in the coming weeks. |
